Pastor Greg Cranston

Rachel and I moved here from our “sister church” in Columbia, MO in 2011.

I came to Jesus at East Iowa Bible Camp as a young teen. I am so grateful for the neighbor who invited me and the evangelist who led me to the feet of Jesus. Years later I asked that neighbor, “Do you remember how you felt when you knocked on my door?” He replied, “I was scared to death.” Thank you, Art Merck, for inviting a lost teenager to Bible Camp. Now we have 5 children, 27 grandchildren, and 4 great grands. Most of them are walking with Jesus because a neighbor invited me to Bible Camp. Never underestimate your attempts to direct people to God through Christ. He uses you!

Since coming to LifeSpring, God has pressed me to make a deal with Him: “LORD, I will open my mouth if You will fill it.” He wants to do the same with you. Come join us in reaching our city, state, nation and world. You have a part, no matter how small it may look to you. God will multiply it. (Mark 4:20)

IN THE ESSENTIAL BELIEFS,

WE HAVE UNITY.

"There is one body and one Spirit...there is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, and one God and Father of us all..." Ephesians 4: 4-6

IN THE NON-ESSENTIAL BELIEFS,

WE HAVE LIBERTY.

"Accept him whose faith is weak, without passing judgement on disputable matters... Who are you to judge someone else’s servant? To his own master he stands or falls... So then each of us will give an account of himself to God... So whatever you believe about these things keep between yourself and God". Romans 14: 1,4, 12, 22

IN ALL OUR BELIEFS,

WE SHOW LOVE.

"...If I hold in my mind not only all human knowledge, but also the very secrets of God, and if I have the faith that can move mountains - but have no love, I amount to nothing at all"!      I Corinthians 13:2 (PH)

What We Believe...

  • ...ABOUT GOD

There is but one God, infinite in power, wisdom, justice, goodness and love; the Creator of the Universe, eternally existing in three Persons - the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit - each of whom possesses all the attributes of Deity and the characteristics of personality. (See Gen 1:1, 26-27, 3:22; Psalm 90:2, Matt 28:19; 1 Peter 1:2; II Cor. 13:14)

  • ....ABOUT JESUS CHRIST

God the Father, by His own choice and out of love for sinful men and women, sent Jesus Christ (the Son of God) into the world to reconcile sinners to Himself. Jesus Christ was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of a virgin. He is God in the flesh, both true God and true man. Jesus Christ lived a sinless life and voluntarily suffered and died as our substitute to pay the penalty for our sins, thus satisfying God’s justice and accomplishing salvation for all who trust in Him alone. He rose from the dead in the same body, although glorified, in which He lived and died. He bodily ascended into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God the Father, where He, the only mediator between God and man, makes intercession for us. He will return to earth - personally, visibly and bodily - to judge all men and establish His kingdom. (See Matt 1:22-23; Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1-5, 14; 14:8-30; Hebrews 4:14-15; I Corinthians 15:3-4; Romans 1:3-4; Acts 1:9-11, I Timothy 6:13-15; Titus 2:13).

  • ....ABOUT THE HOLY SPIRIT

The Holy Spirit is co-equal with the Father and the Son of God. He is present in the world to make men aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian with power for living, the understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. He gives every believer a spiritual gift the moment they become a believer. As Christians, we seek to live under His control daily. (See II Corinthians 3:17; John 16:7-13; 14:16-17; Acts 1:8; I Corinthians 2:12-14, 3:16; Galatians 5:25; Ephesians. 1:13; 5:18)

  • ....ABOUT THE BIBLE

The sole basis of our beliefs is in the Bible, the 66 Books of the Old and New Testaments. It was uniquely, verbally and fully inspired by the Holy Spirit and was written without error in the original manuscripts. Because it is inspired by God, it is the truth without any mixture of error. It is the supreme and final authority in faith and life in every age. The Bible is our standard for all doctrines, whether stated in this statement or not. LifeSpring’s pastors and Board of Elder-Trustees have the final authority on all Biblical interpretations. (See 2Timothy 1:13; 3:16; 2Peter 1:20-21; Psalm 12:6; 119:105, 160; Proverbs 30:5)

  • ....ABOUT ETERNITY

God created people for the purpose of living forever. We will all continue to exist - either eternally separated from God by sin, or eternally with God through forgiveness and salvation. We believe in the bodily resurrection of the saved to be with Christ, and in the conscious eternal suffering of the lost. (See 1John 2:25; 3:16; 5:11-13; Matthew 25:44-46; Romans 6:23; 2 Thessalonians 1:8-10;  Revelation 20:15)

  • ....ABOUT OURSELVES AS HUMAN BEINGS

People are made male and female in the spiritual image of God, to be like Him in character. People are the supreme object of God’s creation, each made according to His plan. As we were originally created, we were innocent before God. But man chose to sin by disobeying God, and therefore was alienated from his Creator and came under divine condemnation. Thus, all human beings are born with a corrupted nature and without spiritual life, and are totally incapable of pleasing God in and of ourselves. Although every person has tremendous potential for good, all of us are marred by an attitude of independence that separates us from God and causes many problems in life. (See Gen 1:27; Psalm 8:3-6; Isaiah 53:6a; Romans 3:23; Isaiah 59:1-2)

  • ....ABOUT SALVATION

Salvation is God’s free gift to us...but we must receive it! We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works. No one is freed from the penalty for their sins, either in whole or in part, by their own good works, goodness or religious ceremony; it is only by the undeserved favor of God. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God’s offer of forgiveness can anyone be saved from sin’s penalty. We believe that God offers redemption and restoration to all who confess and forsake their sin, seeking His mercy and forgiveness through Jesus Christ. When we turn from our self-ruled life and turn to Jesus in faith, we are saved. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into their life by faith. (See Romans 5:1; 6:23; 10:9-10; Ephesians 2:8-9; John 1:12; 14:6; Titus 3:5; Galatians 3:26; Acts 3:19-21; 1 Corinthians 6:9-11)

  • ....ABOUT ETERNAL SECURITY

Because God gives us eternal life through Jesus Christ, the true believer is secure in that salvation for eternity. You can be fully assured of eternal life from the very moment you put your faith in Christ. If you have been genuinely "saved", then you cannot lose it! Salvation is accomplished by the grace and power of God (who knows all of your sins both past, present and future), and not by your own self-effort. (See John 10:29, II Tim 1:12; Hebrews 7:25; 10:10 & 14; I Peter 1:3-5)

  • ....ABOUT BAPTISM AND THE LORD’S SUPPER

Jesus Christ has instructed those who believe in Him to be baptized in water as a symbol of their new birth in Christ. Baptism is only for those who have personally believed in Christ. Our practice is to baptize by immersion. The Lord also instituted the Lord’s Supper as a remembrance of His suffering, death and resurrection. Neither baptism nor the Lord’s Supper have any merit in helping a person obtain eternal life. (See Ephesians 2:8-9; Mark 1:9; Matt 28: 19-20).

  • ....ABOUT THE CHURCH

All true believers make up the church worldwide and should assemble together in local churches for worship, prayer, fellowship and teaching to be conformed to the image of Christ and to become equipped to carry out the "Great Commission" that Christ gave in Matthew 28: 18 - 20.
